Standing in the Gap

Reflections on the space between what can be seen and what must be discerned—where information, awareness, faith and stillness meet before the next decision is made.

The Space Between

Two things can be true at the same time.

The physical world gives us information constantly. We see. We hear. We touch. We remember. We interpret. Almost immediately, the mind begins deciding what those signals mean.

But what is visible is not necessarily the whole truth. A circumstance can be real while something beyond that circumstance is also real. Fear can be present while peace remains available. Uncertainty can exist while direction is still forming.

I find often that my purpose is to stand in this gap—to be a beacon of light to others, bringing the spiritual into the physical. To connect what can be seen with what must be discerned, and to leave enough space for the unseen to inform how we move through what is directly in front of us.

The work is not to deny the physical. It is to stop allowing the physical to have the only voice.
01

Receive the information.

Notice what you are seeing, hearing, feeling and being told without immediately allowing it to define the whole story.

02

Discern what deserves authority.

Separate observation from assumption. Notice the thought before accepting the thought as truth.

03

Move with clarity.

Leave enough space for stillness, wisdom and the spiritual to shape the decision you carry back into the physical world.

Close Your Eyes

What becomes possible when the physical world stops having the final word.

There is a strange authority we give to what we can see. Circumstances appear in front of us, and almost immediately the mind begins constructing meaning. But evidence is not always the whole truth. Sometimes clarity begins by becoming quiet enough to notice what is speaking.

The Space Between the Thought and the Reaction

The first thought does not have to make the final decision.

Not every thought is truth, and not every feeling requires immediate action. The space between impulse and response is where awareness returns, discernment becomes possible and choice begins.

A Practice of Returning
Close your eyes—not to escape what is real, but to remember that what you can see is not the only source of truth.

Observe. Discern. Make room. Then return to the physical world with enough clarity to decide what deserves your attention, your belief and your action.
